Surviving an Earthquake

Last month, a strong earthquake hit our city. It happened when most people were at home in the evening. The ground started shaking violently, and things in the house fell everywhere.
My family and I followed the safety rules we learned before. We quickly hid under the strong table in the living room and held on tightly. We covered our heads with pillows to protect ourselves from falling objects. After the shaking stopped, we walked downstairs slowly and carefully, avoiding broken glass and fallen walls.
Outside, many buildings were damaged. Some houses had cracks on the walls, and a few old buildings even fell down completely. Ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene. Volunteers came to help the injured and gave out food and water.
In the following days, the government organized teams to repair the damaged buildings and clean up the streets. Many people also joined in to help their neighbors. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, our city is getting back to normal little by little.
This earthquake taught me that we should always be prepared for natural disasters. Learning safety knowledge and having an emergency plan are very important.
